Dear Pacific Summer High School Institute Families,
There is only a week left before the start of Session 2 of the Pacific Summer High School Institute for your student, and we want to share a few reminders on how to prepare for your student's campus arrival and about their residential experience.
Check-in
We will welcome you to campus on Tuesday, June 17 between 7:30am–11am at the DeRosa University Center (building 60 on our campus map).
- Students with last name A–G: please plan to arrive between 7:30–8:30am.
- Students with last name H–O: please plan to arrive between 8:30–9:30am.
- Students with last name P–Z: please plan to arrive between 9:30–11:00am.
For check-in, you may park in parking lots closest to the DeRosa University Center. Your student's first stop should be at the DeRosa University Center Ballroom, where they will pick up their ID card, receive their housing keys, receive their orientation materials, and where you will complete any remaining forms. To speed up this process, ensure that your student brings their school ID or another form of ID, if they have one. You should not bring your student's bags or belongings into the check-in space.
Parking and unloading
At check-in, you will be informed which residence hall your student will live in and the parking area that is designated for unloading to that building. After {!PARTICIPANT-FIRST-NAME!} receives the ID card and key, you can proceed to that building to unload their belongings.
If you choose to use a loading zone to unload your student's belongings, but wish to stay a little longer, please be sure to move your vehicle to a nearby parking lot. On check-in and check-out days, parents and families will be allowed to park for free in any parking marked A, B, or C. As a friendly reminder, students are not permitted to bring vehicles with them to campus while participating in the Pacific Summer High School Institute. University parking is by permit only and non-permitted vehicles will be cited each day.
After move-in
Parents are free to leave right after their students moved in, but campus tours will be available for interested students and parents, which start from the DeRose University Center front desk from 9–11am. There are no other parent and family programs offered beyond 11am and we will ask parents and families to leave campus by that time.
At 11am, students are required to go directly to Knoles Lawn for lunch and their Orientation Welcome Session and Program Overview. After this session, students meet with their faculty leads, who will lead them to their academic programs, which run until 5pm.
At 5pm, dinner is available for students, along with community building activities with their peers. At 9pm, students will return to their residence halls to participate in floor meetings with their Resident Assistants. With the exception of moving students into their rooms, parents, family members, and guests are not permitted in the residence halls at any time during the summer institute.
Additional information
Additional information, including pre-arrival and check-in/check-out information, can be found on the summer institute enrolled students' resource page. Here you will find an overview of how your student will map out their weekday and weekends, as well as a detailed schedule of the types of co-curricular activities your student can enjoy outside of the classroom each day. You can also download the welcome packet with useful information on what to bring to campus. Please also make sure that {!PARTICIPANT-FIRST-NAME!} studies the summer institute campus map, to learn where they are allowed to go within our campus.
